Sometimes, reflecting on my particular placement in this world, I feel so extremely lucky. See, I have relatively few of the qualities historically attributed to women. My cooking is horrible, my dancing and singing are terrible and my meekness is next to nonexistent. To add insult to injury, I have really bad eyesight and bad hearing. Not exactly your model 18th century wife.
However, I´m a proud 21st century child. The bad eyesight and the not so good hearing are countered with contact lenses and saying Ha! a lot and the culinary deficiency is countered by having money to burn at different fast food joints. The lack of dancing and singing are (at least in my mind) evened out by my skills at drinking and playing poker.
So as an Icelander born in the late 20th century, I count myself really lucky. I appreciate that the difference in geographic placement or being born at an earlier time would have made life that much harder and the opportunities that much fewer.
I regard myself extremely fortunate.
